Carleton E. Watkins is a famous American landscape photographer born in 1829. He was one of the most highly acclaimed of early western photographers, but his work has never been fully cataloged. Watkins enjoyed photographing early San Fransisco, Yosemite, and the Sierra Nevada mining regions. He also took some of the first photographs of Southern California and the Pacific Northwest.
