Lee Friedlander

Lee Friendlander is an American photographer and artist born in Aberdeen, Washington in 1934. Friedlander studied photography at the Art Center College of Design located in Pasadena, California. During his Career he has mostly photographed landscape, nude, portrait, documentary, and self-portrait genres. Many people consider Friedlander  a genius for how he downplays the importance of his photographs in the context of art history. Some of his famous photographs appeared in the 1985 Playboy, consisting of black and white pictures of Madonna. Working primarily with Leica 35mm cameras and black and white film, Friedlander's style focused on the "social landscape". His art used detached images of urban life, store-front reflections, structures framed by fences, and posters and signs all combining to capture the look of modern life.
